| JOHN SCHLITT NAMED BEST ROCK SINGER IN CHRISTIAN MUSIC HISTORY
( 08/31/2009) |
| |
JOHN SCHLITT NAMED BEST ROCK SINGER IN CHRISTIAN MUSIC HISTORY
Legendary Rocker Recognized By GospelMusicChannel.com
John Schlitt
Franklin, TN August 31, 2009 - Legendary recording artist John Schlitt—solo artist, lead singer for Grammy Award-winning Christian band Petra and former lead singer for mainstream rock band Head East—has been named the best rock singer in Christian music history by GospelMusicChannel.com.
Senior music editor Andy Argyrakis selected Schlitt for the top position, identifying the best ten rock singers in terms of undeniable talent, vocal ability and indelible impact upon generations past and present.
“I’m very surprised, but very honored,” said Schlitt upon learning of the announcement. “To be considered first among talent such as Kevin Max and Michael Sweet is truly an honor.” Other artists on the list include Switchfoot lead singer Jon Foreman, 2008 AMA Emerging Artist of the year Mike Farris, Phil Keaggy, dc Talk’s Michael Tait, Skillet’s John Cooper, Burlap to Cashmere lead singer Steven Delopoulos and Tony Vincent.
Schlitt continues to tour as a solo artist and as GospelMusicChannel.com states, “remains one of the most distinctive and impactful men to ever stand behind a microphone.”
With more than three decades worth of water under the musical bridge, John Schlitt has earned multiple Gold Records, Grammys and Dove Awards. He has toured all over the world and has been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame as a member of Petra. After 20 years fronting Petra, one of the most successful rock bands in Christian music history, Schlitt recently released his third solo album, The Grafting, on 4K Records. Still passionate about the message of the Gospel and compelled to deliver it in his own inimitable fashion, he called on the multiple talents of rising star producer/songwriter Dan Needham (Amy Grant, Petra, Michael McDonald) to help craft his vision.
The Grafting finds Schlitt exploring uncharted musical territory, while remaining anchored by his unmistakable voice. At once intimate and accessible, The Grafting is without a doubt Schlitt’s most potent solo album to date.
The Grafting is available on 4K Records and is distributed by New Day Christian Distributors in the U.S. and internationally by Go Global Entertainment. For more information on John Schlitt and his latest project, The Grafting, visit johnwschlitt.com. |

| STACI FRENES' LATEST RADIO SINGLE BREAKS TOP 20 ON AC & CHR CHART
( 06/17/2009) |
| |
FRENES' LATEST RADIO SINGLE "WHAT I WON'T LEAVE WITHOUT"
RESONATES ON CHARTS AND WITH CHURCHES
The second single from acclaimed singer/songwriter, Staci Frenes' Meteor Shower CD, What I Won't Leave Without, is currently sitting at #18 on the AC charts and #6 on CHR formats, and is connecting with both radio and live audiences nation-wide.
Already "in rotation" in several church worship music repertoires, as well as hundreds of radio stations across the nation, the driving pop/rock anthem expresses Frenes' longing and persistence to encounter God. "Wherever I sing this song, I am seeing this hunger resonate with other believers. We are not playing church when we gather; we want see God and hear what He has to say to us, nothing less," says Frenes
Frenes' home church of Cornerstone Fellowship in Livermore, CA, a non-denominational church of 5,000+ where Staci periodically leads worship, added What I Won't Leave Without to its weekend worship song list earlier this year. "The song connected with our fellowship from the first time Staci led it in worship," says worship director, Scott Haus. Frenes, the sole songwriter, is offering the song and chord chart as free downloads for worship pastors who would like to lead it at their own church. (see link below)
"Of all the songs on this new CD, this is the one I think people want to sing for themselves, to repeat as a prayer. David's words. 'as the deer pants for water, so my soul longs after You' are ones we all echo within our spirit; this song has that same sense of yearning. I love that people are connecting with it so deeply."
Staci and Band performed the song at Live From Studio B recently. Watch it here:

| Joy Lippard Lifeway Review
( 05/09/2009) |
| |
Music Review: ‘Joy Lippard’
Written by Mike Parker
Fresh-faced ingénue Joy Lippard turns out a near-perfect pop masterpiece with her debut, self-titled CD. Barely out of high school, Lippard captures the exuberance, confidence, insecurities, and mixed optimism and trepidation of her generation in this 10-song collection that explores relationships both earthly and ethereal.
The project opens with the delightfully bouncy, “Hey There Stranger.” All the giddy, lump-in-your-throat, sweaty palmed euphoria that accompanies meeting that special someone that you seem to have known all your life is packed into this three-minute pop pearl. Yet Lippard reveals a heart that is wise beyond her eighteen years. “Hey there stranger,” she croons. “I know I know your name/ But would you introduce me to your heart?”
The focus shifts from school girl crush to eternal love on “Miracle” as she proclaims, “You need a miracle/ You need to feel the hand of God.” But just as easily, she returns to the roller coaster emotions of first love on “I Will Write You Letters.” Some might level criticism of sell-out, but I think Lippard has delivered a dynamic, honest, and spot-on examination of a life that refuses to be compartmentalized. Faith, relationships, emotions, dreams, aspirations – all from the perspective of a young woman who has not yet seen twenty summers and laid bare for all to see.
Occasionally, Lippard descends into a moody piano ballad, like “The Other Side” and “She’s a Diamond,” where she effectively channels Ginny Owens. But for the most part the music, like Lippard’s Christian name, is upbeat and joyful. Vocally, she is sweet, rich and resonate, reminiscent of Joy Williams or maybe Natalie Grant in her post-Truth era. Keep an eye on Joy Lippard. This is a young artist who could very easily be the next big thing.

| Tammy Trent in South Africa
( 03/09/2009) |
| |
An excerpt from Anita Rundell, with Tammy Trent on her tour of South Africa...
"Hey, ya’ll! This is Anita, writing from East London, South Africa. Tammy is here ministering at a wonderful 8 day conference called “Get Ready 2009”. This is the last night of the conference and what an amazing week it has been. We’ve only had internet while we’ve been at the church, so TT is out in the conference right now and I came back to the green room to send this to you all.
It’s really an incredible feeling to join up with people from all over the world, in one place, and feel like you’ve known them your whole life. There have been 4 visiting pastors (2 from America, 1 from England, and 1 from South Africa) and between them and their teams and the team here at this church (River Ministries), we have felt nothing but loved and welcomed. I’m sure it’s just a glimpse of what Heaven will be like.
South Africans love TT :-) They love her music and love her groove! :-) We have already been invited back to next year’s conference! Bishop TD Jakes will be here as well as some of the same pastors that were here this year. So, we are extremely excited to come back a year from now. There were many pastors from all over South Africa that have been here experiencing the conference all week and they all have said they want Tammy to come to their church. So, I’m sure next year, we’ll be here for several weeks traveling all over this beautiful country!!
Tammy was prophesied to this week from a pastor who had just met her for the first time and knew nothing about her. Yet he got everything right. So, it was definitely a Word from God. Part of what God said to Tammy was, “I have always had a promise with you. But that promise came with a problem. But I want you to know that I will still fulfill that promise. You have an evangelistic word inside your stomach.” And then he told Tammy, “in 3 Years”. So pray for Tammy, now, and during the next 3 years…that everything will begin to line up with what God has said. That God will bring the right people to cover Tammy for her to learn from, and that God will line up the right opportunities…and that Tammy will be open to doing whatever she needs to do to be where she needs to be….in 3 years. She really feels like the “3 years” is the time that she needs to take to learn and to grow and prepare herself for whatever it is that God has promised. I have always sensed something “more” about Tammy that is to come. I can’t even explain to you the feeling that I have always felt…and I’m not being biased…but I just know that she has something special to offer the world that God hasn’t even shown her yet. She has so much to give, doesn’t she. You’ll all know that too. That’s why we all love her so much." |

| JOY LIPPARD BILLBOARD REVIEW
( 02/25/2009) |
| |
JOY LIPPARD
This talented 18-year-old—the 2006 winner of the Gospel Music Assn.'s Music in the Rockies songwriting competition—fulfills that early promise with a debut disc that showcases her expressive vocals and insightful songwriting. There's a sweet, vulnerable quality in her voice that lends extra emotional weight to such ballads as "The Other Side" and "Too Much to Ask For." The latter tune is an earnest, heart-in-throat relationship song that has the potential to be a major mainstream pop hit. "I Will Write You Letters" is an effervescent tune with a terrific singalong chorus. "Hole in My Pocket," penned with Scott Dente, is absolutely infectious. Though the album is targeting the Christian market, Lippard, with her well-honed pop sensibility, mature-beyond-her-years songwriting and that wonderful voice, could find herself embraced by mainstream audiences enthralled with Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. —Deborah Evans Price |

| RUN WITH MAGGIE B.
( 02/25/2009) |

The MaggieB.Com team is excited to announce that the new Run With Maggie B. site launched today! Join Margaret Becker on April 25th, virtually! See the personal message from Margaret below - and join today!
from Margaret...
What do Jesus, losing 5 pounds and a child have in common?
You.
Jesus: your Saviour, the one who advocates quality giving (especially the kind that allows him to create miracles) - the inconvenient and difficult kind.
The 5 Pounds: Isn’t that the part of your new years resolution you are slowly forgetting about as the year wears on?
The Child: The one who doesn’t need to lose weight, but rather needs to experience Christ through you, sharing with them during this—your most ‘financially-lean’ time.
Of all the things I can do with this space and your intelligent, Christ-like mind, I can’t imagine a better one than to help you help yoursef and help others at the same time. This is how it works. You run, walk or heck...even ‘forward-roll’ with me on April 25th, 2009. I don’t care how far you go. I don’t care how you look when you do. You just do it.
While you are preparing for that date, you will probably move more than you do now, and you are going to give a charitable donation which will go to feed children. You will be Christ to them, and probably keep your New Years resolution afterall.
When you visit http://www.runwithmaggieb.com, you will find everything you need to succeed, including free training, gear, the instructions, and the tax-deductible link to join the, (and I use this term very loosely,) race.
I look forward to running, walking, crawling or even forward-rolling with you on April 25th so 'cmon, join me now at http://www.runwithmaggieb.com!
~ Maggie

| JOY LIPPARD GARNERS RAVE REVIEWS AS DEBUT BOWS TODAY
( 02/24/2009) |
| |
NASHVILLE, Tenn.— Already garnering critical acclaim, the highly-anticipated self-titled debut from 18-year-old singer/songwriter Joy Lippard releases today through a distribution partnership with Go Global Entertainment and E1 Entertainment Distribution.
Billboard magazine says, “...Lippard, with her well-honed pop sensibility, mature-beyond-her-years songwriting and that wonderful voice, could find herself embraced by mainstream audiences enthralled with Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus.”
Additionally, ChristianMusicToday.com gives Joy Lippard four out of five stars, calling the project “a well-rounded debut full of vibrant piano pop and acoustic rock...”
Citing Lippard as a role model for her peers, Soul-Audio.com touts the album as ”…an excellent choice for teen girls… Parents everywhere will exult in Joy’s positive influence and feminine attire and attitude, something very lacking in pop culture today.”
A 2006 GMA Music in the Rockies songwriting competition winner, Lippard wrote or co-wrote all of the album’s 10 selections and co-produced the project with Todd Wright. A guitar and piano player, her acoustic-pop melodies articulate a maturity that belies her age, while her honest, yet hopeful lyrics speak largely to her peers.
Lippard can currently be seen on the “Wonder of the World” Tour, featuring Rush Of Fools, Jimmy Needham and special guest Sarah Reeves. The Tour launched last weekend and will be hitting Chicago; Memphis; Charleston, West Virginia; and Marietta, Ohio, among other markets, before wrapping up in April.
A recent high school graduate, Lippard hails from suburban Washington, D.C. Penning her first song at the age of 11, Lippard went on to serve as a youth worship leader at McLean Bible Church. She is an advocate of international missions and has participated in trips to Peru, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.

| An Apology from Bryan Duncan
( 01/30/2009) |
| |
An Apology to Worship Musicians and Writers,
To all of you who work tirelessly every week to bring effective music to the church, I’d like to offer a public apology on behalf of myself mostly and perhaps the entire body of Christ. I’m sorry for the way I’ve complained about the music style, discounted your talents, accused you of half hearted effort, and insincerity in trite lyrics.
Most of my life I’ve watched from the sidelines of the “worship community”. As a songwriter myself, I’ve often complained about the state of church music. First because it was seldom in a style I wanted to sing to. But primarily because I did not understand the depth of the challenge you face. It takes a smarter individual to simplify complex issues down to an understandable reality.
Recently, I was confronted about my own responsibilities to make improvements, rather than sit on the back row of church and whine. “What if you were responsible to represent all of Christianity?” someone said to me. “Lets just say you were appointed as the main representative of Christ. Everyone came to you to ask what Christianity and it’s music should look like, now What?” He left me to fill in the blanks.
Wow, I thought. What if I was responsible personally to define for the world what Christianity should be like? How do I stay true to the definitions God has laid out for us in scripture and then define music that exalts Christ? First of all I don’t want the job, because I am a sinner and my own faults would be on the front page of the Agnostic News! I am the primary reason some people leave the church. I am incongruent with my own profession of faith. I only want what I like for that matter!
There are more music styles these days than there are ethnic backgrounds. So how do you bring music to everyone that will cause them to feel a sense of awe and wonder at the presence of God Almighty? How do you help people enter the presence of God? I know how to get there with my own music. But I can see how it doesn’t resonate with everyone in a church setting. I’ve complained about the redundant use of standard terminology. Catch Phrases may be new to many but sometimes the words used are flat sounding and rigid to someone who has a lifetime of familiarity with scripture.
Then too you’ve got every age group under the sun and none of them like each other or each other’s music! Couple that with the pressure of seeing mostly the same people you are already too familiar with to avoid resentments and frustrations. Thank God he has not placed the entire burden upon me.
So for fun I decided to try to write something everyone could sing. I held to my own complaints of tired phrases. Made a list of words I was tired of hearing. And I sat with it for three days staring at a blank page. There’s a game we play, where you have to communicate a word or concept in three minutes without using certain words listed on the playing card. Ever play that? You can find yourself absolutely frustrated in a matter of seconds and when the buzzer goes off signaling your time is up, you’re screaming and pulling your hair out.
I applied my own criticism to my new model of “Christian Worship Music”, coming from a purely functional writing method. I analytically subjected every thought about who God is to why he should receive a spontaneous outcry of emotional joy and satisfaction. What I got was a screaming, pull your hair out experience. As soon as I tried to put words in the mouths of other people it took on a movie script “call and response”… “he says and then you say”. Instantly there were no feelings behind it.
Emotions come from reactions to particular circumstances. And when you simplify the struggle it loses an impact. I eventually found some satisfaction in writing some meaningful songs that might resonate with others but it had to start with my own heart and my own reasons. From there I imagine you have to trust that God will intervene. The truth is, God must inspire his own worship, which he does, but getting people to see that is like changing the behaviors of someone else. That’s God’s objectives and responsibility by the way.
Anyway, I’d like to ask you to forgive me for the tirades I have thrown into the air about what I haven’t liked. I believe that you might be closer to God than anyone will ever know. I do understand the pain of being misunderstood and indicted based on a perception. Someone wrote a song about that once, can’t remember his name but the song was called ‘no body knows me like you do”. It was very popular with the majority of all who heard it. Misunderstandings happen to all of us, and this writer didn’t even have to describe in great detail how he was misunderstood!
I pray for you as you sit with your music and the time you spend in bringing an effort to lead others to your experience in a relationship with the highest of all power. Don’t quit in the face of criticism and complaining about what you aren’t bringing correctly. I know you struggle with your own failures even as you try to bring a bigger picture of the “Amazing Grace” that God alone has to offer. “What a Friend we have in Jesus”. There’s nothing wrong with the wording I’ve discovered. It’s the attitude of the receiver that has always been the problem. All we can do as musicians is bring our hardened hearts to the cross and allow the beatings to soften us and let God show us how to put that into a song of feelings everyone might recognize.
Thanks for letting me make my amends! Bryan Duncan |

| Getting To Know Joy Lippard
( 01/15/2009) |
| |
Who were/are your biggest musical influences?
My first CD’s were Point of Grace and Rachel Lampa. I listened to those over and over again and knew every word! Then Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Avril Lavigne became my favorites as they made their appearances into the limelight. Most recently, I think my musical sound has been shaped by a variety of artists including Kelly Clarkson, Sarah Barielles, Feist, Imogen Heap, Relient K, Stacie Orrico, Krystal Meyers, KT Tunstall, Gwen Stephanie, Brooke Fraser, etc.
When did you start playing/singing/writing music?
I started playing the piano against my will when I was 4 years old! I hated practicing for the longest time, but then grew to love the instrument when I started writing at age 11 and realized the benefit of playing. I then began taking guitar lessons and fell in love with it when I was in 7th grade, around age 13.
What is in your iPod right now?
LOTS of music! Ashlee Simpson, Augustana, The Beatles, Bebo Norman, Brandon Heath, Brooke Fraser, Chris Tomlin, Colbie Caillat, Copeland, David Crowder, Deas Vail, Death Cab for Cutie, Downhere, Family Force 5, Feist, Forever the Sickest Kids, The Fray, Hillsong, Jack Johnson, Jack’s Mannequin, Jason Mraz, Jimmy Eat World, Jonezetta, Josh Wilson, Kelly Clarkson, Lecrae, Leeland, Mae, Metro Station, MuteMath, Paul Wright, Phil Wickham, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Relient K, The Rocket Summer, Sherwood, Switchfoot, Taylor Swift, TobyMac, Train. Those are just a few of my favorites.
What is your favorite Bible verse?
Matthew 16:24-25 “Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will find it.” I love this because I think we often take the title “Christian” so lightly, but this is what a true follower of Christ is called to do… give up everything to gain everything!
What are you reading now?
The book of Acts. I just finished an incredible book called “Crazy Love,” by Francis Chan and I’m currently looking for another great book!
Who are some of your favorite authors?
I have to be honest; I used to hate reading, until about a month ago when I was introduced to some great books, including Crazy Love. I’m currently on a book high. But since this is a new thing, I still haven’t read tons of books… so I guess my favorite authors would be Francis Chan and Josh Harris (author of I Kissed Dating Goodbye and Boys Meets Girl).
What was the first Christian CD you remember listening to?
Point of Grace. I was so excited to have my first CD! We didn’t even have a CD player in the car though so I read the whole CD booklet, including all the lyrics AND the thank you section, on the way home before I could even listen to the music.
What are your ministry goals?
I want my ministry and life to be like 1 Cor 11:1 that says, “Follow me, as I follow the example of Christ.” I want my music to be positive and encouraging to listen to and I want my life to be a model for people to follow, but ultimately I want them to see Jesus not me. Vbr>
What is your favorite Web site?
Well I have to be honest, I’m probably most often on Facebook. But other sites I find extremely useful are Biblegateway.com and Googlemaps.com. Oh and I also like Hulu.com/tv to watch episodes of the Office.
What are you studying during your quiet time?
I’m going through the book of Acts right now. It’s really amazing to read about Paul and some of the apostle’s journeys, hardships and blessings in sharing the gospel message. Also, I like to read one Psalm a day and just be in awe of God’s strength and faithfulness in times of good and bad.
Who sounds like you?
A lot of people say Jewel and more recently Taylor Swift. Also, I’ve gotten Michelle Branch and Bonnie McKee.
What was the last lesson God taught you?
The power of prayer and God’s faithfulness. Over the course of the year I’ve been praying specifically for a few things and seeing God answer those prayers, not always in the way I’d planned or hoped but according to His perfect will. It’s so encouraging to know that God is totally in control of every situation and wants to give us the best… better than we could even hope for, so we need not worry!
What song do you wish you had written?
“Love Song,” by Sarah Barielles and “Love Story,” by Taylor Swift.
What do you want people to take away from this album?
I want people to be encouraged by the stories behind the songs. I’ve already encountered many people who say they can relate to a lot of the songs on the record. I love it when I’m dealing with something and then a song on my I-pod comes on that is so right on to how I feel. Some of the songs on the new record are not blatantly Christian, so my prayer is that people who enjoy my CD will want to find out more about my music and my story and be drawn closer to the Lord in turn!
Where did you grow up?
I’ve lived in the same house in Great Falls, VA since I was born!
Tell us about your family.
Their crazy in love with Jesus… it’s awesome! My dad is constantly sharing the “good news” of Jesus Christ with everyone… taxi drivers, waiters at restaurants, the mailman, etc. He inspires and challenges me. My mom is a prayer warrior. She is extremely driven and very involved in my music career. My sister Kristy, who’s a junior at Virginia Tech University, is my best friend. She’s studying abroad in Ecuador next semester to learn Spanish so she can be a translator on mission trips. Of course, we get frustrated with each other and have our tense moments, but I’d say we’re all very close and honest with each other.
What makes you laugh?
A lot of things make me laugh! I LOVE laughing. I’m always observing people, so often times I’m laughing at something funny they say or do that no one else noticed. I love funny movies like Win A Date With Tad Hamilton, Zoolander, Legally Blonde and the show The Office, or anything Steve Carrel is in! I’m extremely ticklish too, so that’s a good way to get me to laugh.

| John Schlitt Inks Deal with Go Global Entertainment
( 09/29/2008) |
| |
| Nashville, TN – Legendary recording artist John Schlitt—solo artist, lead singer for GRAMMY Award-winning Christian band Petra and former lead singer for mainstream rock band Head East—recently inked an international distribution deal for his latest CD, The Grafting, with Go Global Entertainment, LLC, a Nashville, Tenn.-based company specializing in sales, marketing, licensing and distribution of quality Christian products worldwide.
“I’ve had the privilege of working with Petra over the years and have seen the popularity of John Schlitt and his music in countries throughout Europe, Asia and South America,” says Eric Nordhoff, founder of Go Global Entertainment. “I expect that these markets will greatly embrace John’s new project, The Grafting, and that the project will do very well in the international marketplace.”
With more than three decades worth of water under the musical bridge, John Schlitt has earned multiple Gold Records, GRAMMYs and Dove Awards. He has toured all over the world and has been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame as a member of Petra. After 20 years fronting Petra, one of the most successful rock bands in Christian music history, Schlitt released his third solo album, The Grafting, on June 24, 2008, on 4K Records. Still passionate about the message of the Gospel and compelled to deliver it in his own inimitable fashion, he called on the multiple talents of rising star producer/songwriter Dan Needham (Amy Grant, Petra, Michael McDonald) to help craft his vision.
The result, a stunning collection of nine new songs and one old favorite, is an astonishing, multi-layered look into the very nature of love and life, lost and found in Christ. While the moods may be many, at their core, they are all pure Schlitt. “Dan is my son-in-law, and I had him produce it for me because I knew the sound he would bring would be exactly what the album should sound like,” Schlitt says.
That close bond between father-in-law and son-in-law allowed for the creation of a uniquely new style for Schlitt—one that appeals not only to the Boomer Generation who has followed his music throughout the years, but one that is also relevant to younger generations. “I wanted it to be an album that would appeal to folks who grew up on Christian rock ‘n’ roll, an album for folks who want some tension in their music, but not too much,” Schlitt explains.
The Grafting finds Schlitt exploring uncharted musical territory, while remaining anchored by his unmistakable voice. It is a combination that is sure to please his legion of fans and attract a new generation of adherents. At once intimate and accessible, The Grafting is without a doubt Schlitt’s most potent solo album to date.
The Grafting is available on 4K Records and is distributed nationally by TAG Artist Group. For more information on John Schlitt and his new album, The Grafting, visit www.johnwschlitt.com.
